State Data: GPA

Between 2002 and 2005 Amer-I-Can was awarded federal grants through the US Department of Education and Department of Justice to train student’s life management skills at eleven schools in the Boston area and residents at Westover Job Corps in Chicopee.

Between 2002-2005, 1,103 trainees successfully completed the Amer-I-Can Program at the Boston area schools and 1,020 completed the training at Westover Job Corps.  

The average GPA of students from the schools that provided letter grades was 1.73 before the training and increased to 2.25 after the training, representing a 31% increase.  At Westover Job Corps, the trainees CAP scores (Career Assessment Panel) improved from 3.59 before the training to 3.89 at the end of the training period, representing an 8% increase.

State Data: Attendance
 
The students’ attendance records reflected a total of 15,022 absences prior to the training and 6,435 absences during the training period, resulting in a reduction of 8,587 absences from school, representing a
57% decrease.  The trainees’ at Westover Job Corps attendance records reflected a total of 1,855 absences prior to the training and 1,078 absences during the training period, resulting in a reduction of 777 absences, representing a 42% decrease.

State Data: Disciplinary Incidents
 
Before the training a total of 3,533 disciplinary incidents were documented by the participating schools compared to 1,237 after the Amer-I-Can training. The 2,296 fewer disciplinary incidents represent a
65% decrease.  Before the training a total of 583 disciplinary incidents were documented by the trainees at the Westover Job Corps to 302 by the end of the Amer-I-Can training. The 281 fewer disciplinary incidents represent a 48% decrease.
